History of GCI

GCI was established in 1979 in Anchorage Alaska. GCI as a company has over 1600 Employees across Alaska.GCI is the largest telecommunications provider in the State of Alaska. www.gci.com

In 1996 GCI created the Industrial Telecom Group (ITG) to focus support on BP and ARCO. In 2002 we went beyond our original customer base to support oil field service companies and exploration efforts on the North Slope. Today the Industrial Telecom Group of 55 Alaskan based employees provide project design, documentation, engineering, implementation and management of communications for not only the major oil developers on the North Slope, but also the oil support industries and exploration companies. The GCI Industrial Telecom Group has a combined 150 years of North Slope experience.

Our Staff is currently comprised of project managers, professional project engineers, network engineers, documentation specialists, and in the field technicians providing 24x7 support from our Prudhoe Operation Base. With our partners at the Computer Network Control Center (CNCC), our remote VSAT clients are provided 24x7 monitoring and proactive support. We also compliment the local Commercial Division of GCI by meeting on a weekly basis to ensure our efforts are coordinated between divisions.
